CASPEGS, based in British Columbia, is an incorporated non-partisan organization engaged in research and policy-oriented activities of critical significance to Canada and the globe.
The Society’s Constitution lists its following purposes:
- To promote peace through research, policy prescriptions, and creative channels in keeping with such documents as the Declaration on the Right of Peoples to Peace (adopted by the UN General Assembly,1984), and UNESCO’s mandate for establishing a culture of peace and non-violence.
- To conduct empirical and interdisciplinary research on Canada’s public policy priorities in various sectors including health, innovation, education, and internal security.
- To conduct cutting-edge research on global and regional issues and problems of current and contemporary significance, primarily peace, conflict management, inter-and-intra state migration during civil wars, health, higher education, and innovation.
- To forge partnerships with multilateral global institutions, including the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, and the World Economic Forum, and with international NGOs.
- To suggest pragmatic alternative models for peace building and management of varied nature of conflicts facing the world community.
- To engage respectfully with the Indigenous communities of Canada in conducting research addressing their concerns and priorities, and to foster Indigenous people-led research.
- To collaborate with international experts, peace theorists and activists, and public policy stakeholders on policy-oriented projects.
- To forge partnership with Canadian universities and research institutes in the priority areas of this Society.
- To provide training, internship opportunities, and mentoring to students and scholars from Canadian universities and research institutes.
